Janet L. (Gruber) Schutte, age 68 of Nebraska City passed away on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Janet was born on Jan. 19, 1950, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City; the daughter of Theodore Charles and Lois Jean (Shields) Gruber.
Janet attended school at Lourdes Central Catholic and graduated with the class of 1968. She then went on to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she received her teaching degree. While attending college, she was a member of Delta-Delta-Delta Sorority.
After graduating from college, she began teaching at Pius X High School in Lincoln.  She taught there for four years, until her health began to decline.  
She was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age of 26.  Janet fought a brave battle against her MS for 42 years.  She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and her beautiful smile.
She is survived by her sister Pam Brewer and husband Tom of Lincoln, brother Nick Gruber and wife Therese of Nebraska City; five nieces and nephews:  Judd Brewer and wife Michelle of Sumrall, Miss.; Kyle Brewer and wife Justina of Lincoln, Kallie Gertsch and husband Guy of Lincoln, Jarrod Gruber and wife Shelsea of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and Lauren Westwood and husband Ben of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; 10 great nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father in 2005 and her mother in 2011.
A Funeral Service was to be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Fr. Mark Cyza officiating.
Burial was to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebraska City.
A Rosary was to be recited at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society  - Nebraska Chapter.
