Lois J. Harris, age 93 of Nebraska City,  passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Hillcrest Health & Rehabilitation in Bellevue, NE.

 

Lois was born on May 2, 1924, in Nebraska City, the daughter of Frank B. and Edith M. (Ertl) Hartley.  She attended school at St. Bernard’s Academy and graduated with the class of 1941. 

She later attended College of St. Mary in Omaha for two years.

 

After college, she worked at the former Conkey’s Mill for seven years.   On Nov. 29, 1951, Lois was united in marriage to Leonard E. Harris at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City. 

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters.

 

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:  Dr. Catherine Harris of Paradise, Mich.; Tom  Harris and wife Shelli of Omaha; Julie Elvers and husband Craig of Elkhorn; Bill Harris and wife Noreen of Nebraska City; seven grandchildren:Brian Harris and fiance Rachel Utter, Caitlin Harris, Curtis Elvers and wife Brittany, Carolyn Navarro and husband Carlos, Matt Harris and wife Megan, Christine Harris and Jeff Harris; two great-grandchildren:Viviana Navarro and Parker Harris; sister Sharlette Wadsworth and husband Jim of Nehawka; sister-in-law Mary Ann Hartley of Omaha; other family and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard on Aug. 27, 2013; three brothers:  Frank, Jr., Charles and Robert Hartley, one sister Betty Hartley as well as her parents.

 

A Funeral Mass was to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Michael McCabe officiating.  Burial was to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Nebraska City.

 

The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday evening at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.  The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

 

Memorials may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (J.D.R.F.) or the Southeast Nebraska Right to Life.
