Gertrude A. Brown, age 93 of Nebraska City died March 6, 2017 at The Ambassador Care Center in Nebraska City. She was born April 4, 1923 in Atkinson, the daughter of Swan and Christine (Brethouwer) Seeberg. Gertrude married Wayne Brown February 24, 1945 in Lincoln. Together, they owned and managed the Gambles Store in Nebraska City for several years. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City and had served as church organist many years, playing for church services, weddings and funerals. Gertrude was a 50-year member of PEO Chapters, including Nebraska City (CF) and Kearney and was a former piano teacher. She formerly lived in Atkinson, Lincoln, New Hampton, IA, Norfolk, and Kearney and before returning to Nebraska City in 2011.

Survivors include her daughters, Beth Jay and husband Ron of Nebraska City, Miriam Frerichs and husband Jim of Kearney, Jane Zimmerman and husband Marvin of Snyder, Beverly Meyer and husband Harvey of Snyder; 8 grandchildren, Ron Jay and wife Susan of Minneapolis, Jeff Jay and wife Laura of Omaha, Jennifer Stoakes and husband David of Omaha, Will Frerichs and wife Anne Marie of Lincoln, Susanne Frerichs and husband Abraham of Frijollio, San Louis Potosi, Mexico, Ian Meyer of Snyder, Evan Meyer and wife Jeni of Lincoln, and Thorin Meyer and wife Casey of Snyder; 9 great grandchildren, Harrison, Ellis, and Lydia Korblick Jay; Alexis and Lilian Stoakes; Griffin and Vivienne Frerichs; and Wesley and Jack Meyer; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; sister, Janette Nelson, and great grandchildren, Phoebe and Henry Frerichs.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City with burial in Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

Visitations will be 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Marshall Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M.
