Richard K. Whitehead, age 77 of Nebraska City; formerly rural Sidney, Iowa,  passed away on Sunday; Nov. 13, 2016, at BryanLGH West Medical Center in Lincoln.
Richard Keith Whitehead was born on April 21, 1939, on the family farm between Sidney, Iowa, and Riverton, Iow; the son of Raymond N. and Vera  Blanche (Johnson) Whitehead.  
He attended school and graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1957.    
He entered the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1964.
He was united in marriage to Margaret LeAnn “Margie” Straw on Sept. 4, 1966, at the Methodist Church in Riverton and to this union five children were born:  Richard, Steven, Michael, Vicki and Denise.
Richard worked for many years at the former Auburn Consolidated Industries as a Welder.  
He also loved farming.  He designed, owned and operated, and fulfilled his dream when he opened Whitehead Speedway near Percival.
He is survived by his wife Margie Whitehead of Nebraska City; children:  Richard K. Whitehead, Jr. and wife Rachel of Omaha, Steven L. Whitehead and wife Shari of Nebraska City, Michael A. Whitehead of Norwalk, Iowa, Vicki L. Arner and husband Mark of Wylie, Texas, and Denise D. Auch and husband James of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; siblings:  Ross Whitehead of Tucson, Ariz., Glenn Whitehead and wife Myra of Riverton, and Marjorie Brummels and husband Dale of Omaha; sister in law Lois Whitehead of rural Sidney, other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Whitehead.
In honoring his wishes, there will be no services held.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Rescue or to the family for future designation.
