Nadine I. (Borland) Snodgrass, 89, of Nebraska City died Jan. 31, 2012, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. She was born on Aug. 27, 1922 in Nebraska City to Wilbur, Sr. and Hazel B. (Hawthorne) Borland.
While growing up in Nebraska City, she was busy picking strawberries for her neighbors and friends. She attended the Maple Grove School for one year, then the school on Kearney Hill. She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1939.
Nadine and her friend Dorothy Mead attended several shorthand competitions in various cities in Nebraska. They both exceeded 150 words per minute. Nadine was secretary for attorneys in the Nebraska City area until her marriage on March 7, 1945, to Robert “Bob” A. Snodgrass, in Laredo, Texas.
Nadine and Bob lived in Panama City, Fla.; Fort Worth, Texas; and Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; before returning to Nebraska City.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Queen Esther Chapter #1 Order of Eastern Star. She served on several local boards, including Wyuka Cemetery Board.
Nadine and Bob enjoyed traveling and attending reunions of those who served in the South Pacific at the same time Bob served there.
Nadine was preceded by her father on Sept. 11, 1966; brother Wilbur, Jr. on July 26, 1986; and mother on Dec. 21, 1996.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert “Bob” A. Snodgrass of Nebraska City; sisters-in-law Adrienne Borland-Ziola of Omaha and Joyce Cheese of Steinhatchee, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, but friends may stop to sign Nadine’s book on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to 8p.m. at Peterson Mortuary.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Nebraska City.
