Clifford J. Allen, 80, of Nebraska City died at Golden Living Center in Neb-raska City on Jan. 30, 2012. He was born March 23, 1931 at Mapleton, Iowa, to Floyd L. and Grace E. (Graham) Allen. He married Mildred Everett June 11, 1950 in Nebraska City.
He is survived by wife Mildred of Nebraska City; daughters Pam Poppens and husband Marlyn of Omaha, and Sue Griepenstroh and husband Dean of Dunbar; grandchildren Lisa and Eric Melander, Megan and Mitch Heusinkvelt, Lindsey Griepenstroh and fiancé Ethan Stout, Matt Poppens and Amanda Poppens; great grandchild Emma Heusinkvelt; brother Paul Allen and wife Linda of Nebraska City; sisters Marie Stoll and Orlane Breazile, both of Nebraska City; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded by sisters Betty Baird and Dorothy Westover, and brother Fred Allen.
He lived in Nebraska City most of his life. Cliff worked for a few years at Nebraska City Coop then Nebraska City Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He started as a route salesman and worked his way up to manager. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping on his son-in-law’s farm.
Cliff was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 968 in Nebraska City, of which he was past president. He enjoyed reading and John Wayne movies. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many activities.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with Rev. Rodger Good officiating.
Pallbearers are his grandchildren and fiance of a grandchild, listed above.
Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday at Marshall Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.
Burial is at East Union Cemetery – Union. Memorials are suggested to Nebraska City Golden Living Alzheimer’s Unit.
