Emma H. (Reimer) Bartels, 94, of Syracuse, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society. She was born Sept. 7, 1915 in rural Syracuse to Christian and Helena (Hauschild) Reimer. She married Alton Henry Bartels on Dec. 14, 1938 at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse.

She is survived by son Larry Bartels and wife Ginny of Syracuse; daughter Karen Blacker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Mary Blacker of Naperville, Ill., Mark and Jonni Blacker of Sachse, Texas, Julie and Kevin Bosworth, Olathe, Kan., and Jennifer and Greg Isaacs, Vienna, Virg.; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Irene Reimer of Syracuse and Leona Kirby of Hendersonville, N.C.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her husband on Oct. 17, 1997; granddaughter Janet Bartels; son-in-law Sam Blacker; brothers Alvin, Walter and Arthur Reimer; sisters Clara Janssen, Leta Brinkman and Ella Post.

She was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a former employee at Good Samaritan Society in Syracuse.

She was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Church Circle and Women of the ELCA. She enjoyed her card clubs, baking and canning, bowling, needlework and was an excellent gardener who especially enjoyed her flowers. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren as much as she could.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse with Rev. Mike Widner and Rev. Paul Coen officiating.

Visitation is Friday, March 12, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The casket will be open an hour before services at the church.

Pallbearers are Lloyd Seelhoff, Dale Janssen, Donald Post, Harold Post, Kenneth Warner and Duane Reimer. Honorary pallbearers are Glen and Margaret Stubbendick, Raymond “Tom” and Marion Royal, Orlin Reimer, Richard Reimer, and Ronald Reimer.

Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to her church.
