A big week of sports action at Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca high school kicks off tonight with the Rocket girls’ basketball team traveling to take on Auburn in the first game of a girls-boys doubleheader. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The S-D-A and Auburn girls’ teams could rematch at the sub-district tournament next week.
Rocket Coach Mark Hrabik said Auburn might be the favorite in a very competitive field of teams in the sub-district tourney.
Results from Tuesday’s game at Auburn and elsewhere in the state could impact the schedule for the event. Currently, the Rocket girls are looking as though they might be headed for a Tuesday match-up against Lincoln Christian. There also exists the possibility that S-D-A could fall back ever so slightly in the wild card point standings and, as a result, be slated for a Monday contest against Falls City.

The S-D-A girls’ and boys’ teams will play at home on Thursday against Conestoga. Game times are 6 and 8 p.m.

In other Rocket sports news, Friday marks the opening day of the Class B-1 district wrestling tournament at S-D-A.

Teams slated to compete at the B-1 district are Ashland-Greenwood, Auburn, Beatrice, Crete, Falls City, Lincoln Christian/Lincoln Lutheran, Nebraska City, Norris, Platteview, Plattsmouth, S-D-A, and Waverly.
