City commissioners delayed a public hearing Monday regarding a blight designation for property proposed for annexation.
The Nebraska City Planning Commission voted Feb. 1 to recommend annexation of 136 acres on the west side of 19th Street from the transfer station to business Highway 75 and the city held a public hearing on Monday, but the action is not expected to be finalized until the Feb. 20 or March 5 meetings.
Nebraska City police received a call from a residence on the 300 block of north Sixth Street Sunday that snowmen were being beaten with baseball bats.
The caller said young men jumped out of a bright red SUV, ran into his yard and beat the snowmen into a mound. A neighbor’s snowman apparently met the same fate.

Average retail gasoline prices in Nebraska have risen 4.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.36/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.43/g, according to gasoline price website NebraskaGasPrices.com.

Nebraska City Public Properties Director Dan Giittinger urged motorists to stay home if they can and warned residents that up to four more inches of snow are expected.
Giittinger said it is heavy, wet snow that makes travel treacherous and makes it easy for a car to hydroplane.
