Nebraska City police are investigating the theft of wheels from a car and the Otoe County Sheriff's Office arrested two men Tuesday morning for suspicion of a separate burglary at a vacant farmhouse.

Deputies were called around 7 a.m. for a burglary in progress. The owner of the farmhouse north of Nebraska City had caught the men loading a pickup truck with appliances being stored in the house.

The burglary suspects then unloaded the items, including a dryer, electric range and microwave, on the sidewalk before leaving.
Otoe County deputies located the truck near Lake Waconda Rd. at Highway 75.

With the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol and Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Christopher Apfel, 32, of Nebraska City and Michael Riggs, 37, of Omaha.

Police say three wheels and tires were stolen from a Chrysler 300 that was parked overnight at the 1000 block of north Eighth Street. Portions of a railroad tie were found near the car, leaving police to suspect that the board was used at a lever to lift the car while the wheels were removed.
