A search for a missing girl in Nebraska City was called off shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night when the girl was found safe.
Police say the eight-year-old girl had been with a cousin and was reported missing shortly before 8:30 p.m. from the Hayward School (306 South 14th Street) area. Police, fire and rescue personnel, as well as volunteers, searched for the girl until nearly 10 p.m., when she was found at 320 First Corso.
Sgt. Jeff Lant told the News-Press that a local resident who realized the girl was lost took her into their home and called a family member. The girl does not live in Nebraska City and an out of town relative was called.
