Tecumseh, Neb. -

Weather conditions have finally cooperated to allow Nemaha Natural Resources District (NNRD) crews to begin work at the Honey Creek bridge on the Steamboat Trace.

The bridge, about halfway between Brownville and Peru, was removed to allow for work on its approaches. It is anticipated the work will take about a week. The trail is closed at that point until further notice.

If weather cooperates and construction can be completed as planned, the trail may be open again by the Saturday-Sunday, June 27-28 weekend. However, trail visitors are urged to check the NNRD’s website, www.nemahanrd.org, or call the NNRD office in Tecumseh 402-335-3325 for the latest information.

Signs are posted at Brownville and Peru to alert trail visitors to the closure.  The remainder of the trail from Peru to Nebraska City is open and accessible. Trail users could still travel the trail as far as Honey Creek from either Peru or Brownville.

NNRD officials appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding during this temporary closure.
