On Thursday afternoon, a traffic stop for speeding led Nebraska City Police officers to search a local residence and recover approximately a half a pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Sgt. Jeff Lant stopped a driver for speeding on Thursday afternoon. When she informed him she was responding to her brother’s home because she suspected he was having a medical emergency, St. Lant followed her. When the two entered the home in the 1000 block of North 12th St., the officer said he could smell marijuana.
The officer investigated the odor and police report that the home’s occupant, Fernando Gonzalez-Balquier, 36, admitted to using marijuana. Sgt. Lant, Sgt. Bando, and Officer Peterson secured the residence and obtained a search warrant.
The officers served the search warrant and recovered the marijuana, drug paraphernalia, what they termed a “large amount” of cash, and a cell phone officers suspect was used in the sale of drugs.
Gonzalez-Balquier was arrested on felony charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The case has been turned over to the county attorney for further review.
