Otoe County officials do not expect local charges against a Nebraska City man arrested Feb. 22 on a federal warrant.

Thomas William Wendt II, 51, of Nebraska City was indicted Feb. 18 on four counts regarding manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine from May through January.

Chief Deputy Mike Holland said officers serving the federal arrest warrant observed items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine on the property, located south of the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Deputies prepared a search warrant for the property and seized several jars of liquids that were sampled for testing at the state crime lab and destroyed.
Holland said there were many other methamphetamine precursors that were processed by Otoe County and state patrol officers.

Nebraska City Fire and EMS Department personnel also responded.
“Meth labs can be very volatile, so we are required to have emergency services at the scene,” Holland said.

Deputy Otoe County Attorney Tim Noerrlinger said evidence gathered as a result of the search warrant will be turned over to federal prosecutors, who will decide if additional charges will be filed against Wendt.
