An elderly couple was killed June 30 when the motor home they were in burst into flames on Interstate 80 near the Beaver Crossing interchange.

The Nebraska State Patrol reports that a tire on the Newmar motor home blew out and caused the driver  to lose control.

The motor home caught fire as it traveled through the roadside ditch and was fully engulfed in flames when it came to rest on an eastbound on-ramp.

State troopers say the man believed to be in his 80s and a woman in her 70s succumbed to carbon monoxide and burns suffered as result of the fire.

The motor home was registered to a couple from Naples, Florida.  The names of the two individuals killed in the accident will be released once positive identification is made, a process that could take until early next week.
