Attorney General Jon Bruning announced that Teresa White, a former Otoe County deputy district court clerk, has been sentenced to 30 to 72 months in prison for the theft of funds from the district court.

“Ms. White abused her official position for personal gain,” Bruning said. “Now she’s got to pay for violating the public’s trust.”

In addition to prison time, White must repay $23,642.79 in restitution. White pleaded no contest in Otoe County District Court to one count of theft by unlawful taking, a class III felony when the amount taken is more than $1,500.

The Attorney General’s Office requested a State Patrol investigation after State Auditor Mike Foley discovered a serious shortage of funds in the Otoe County District Court’s account in March.
