The Otoe County Sheriff’s Department’s new canine patrol dog, Cane, contributed to the arrest Saturday of two Florida women on marijuana charges.
A sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle near Road 22 and Highway 2 around 6 p.m. Cane, a Belgian Malinois, was used to detect marijuana in the vehicle.
Chief Deputy Mike Holland said Haley Oreskovich, 18, and Sharine Gregory, 22, were arrested for suspicion of possession with intent to distribute.
Gregory told Otoe County Judge Jeff Funke Monday morning that “there was no way there was a pound of marijuana” in the car.
The judge told Gregory she could choose not to talk about the facts of the case until she had conferred with an attorney.
