A cooking mishap is blamed for a fire in rural Nebraska City Thursday that caused an estimated $200,000 damage to a home.

Firefighters were called at the home of Dave Hoyle at 481 S. 67th Rd. at 5:18 p.m. An interior attack team entered the house and extinguished a fire in the kitchen.

Cooking food on the stove is blamed for the fire.

An occupant of the house was taken to St. Mary’s Community Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.
Julian firefighters provided mutual aid.
