The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office identified a man discovered along a roadway Monday afternoon as William L. Morgan, 71, of Tabor.
A citizen reported a body lying in the gravel roadway west of the McPaul interchange of Interstate 29 and deputies responded to the 1900 block of 155th Street.
Morgan’s 1993 Ford pickup was located about a quarter mile west of the scene.
Deputies report that he had been driving east on a minimum maintenance road, but got stuck in the mud. Morgan walked east from the vehicle until he collapsed in the roadway and died.
Fremont County Medical Examiner David Owen responded to the scene and determined the cause of death was heat exhaustion and respiratory failure, which lead to cardiac arrest.
