The Nebraska State Patrol has begun training on three light armored vehicles (LAV’s) surplused by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
The LAV-25 is an all terrain, all weather light armored personnel carrier. Built by General Dynamics, the LAV-25 is an amphibious vehicle capable of forging streams, rivers and inland waterways.
“We are excited about adding the LAV’s to our vehicle fleet,” said Colonel Bryan Tuma, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.
“The light armored vehicles afford the agency the ability to provide yet another dimension of service to the people of Nebraska.”
The LAV’s will be utilized to support rescue and tactical operations, assist in emergency situations to include natural disasters, and as a support vehicle for allied agencies statewide. Each LAV is equipped with lights and sirens as well as communication equipment and is capable of holding up to eight personnel.
