The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office reported minor injuries after a farm truck pulled onto Highway 2 in the path of a Nebraska state trooper.
Investigators say a 13-year-old Papillion girl was driving a pickup truck behind a tractor driven by her relative.
The tractor made it across the eastbound lanes of Highway 2 a mile west of Syracuse, but the pickup truck entered the highway in front of oncoming traffic.
Chief Deputy Mike Holland said State Trooper Kyle Gress braked about 100 feet before the collision and veered his vehicle to the opposite direction of the pickup.
The cruiser slammed into the driver’s side of the pickup, however, forcing the car’s bumper below the truck and driving its tire into the highway pavement.
The trooper and the girl were taken to Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital. A dog riding in carrier in the back of the truck bed was uninjured.
Sheriff deputies say the girl failed to yield right of way while crossing the highway at Road 28.
