Nebraska City Police Chief David Lacy said street construction in downtown Nebraska City is putting parking spaces at a premium and making it more important for residents to follow parking regulations.
He said construction can disrupt parking in front of Central Avenue businesses at a time when more employees are parking in timed parking zones on side streets.
Lacy suggested employees the city’s parking lots located in the 700 block of Central Avenue, Memorial Building lot, parking lot located between Wenzl Hardware and American National bank, and the city’s portion of the lot located south of the Arbor Bank on First Corso.
“The police department will make a concerted effort to patrol these lots on a more regular basis during the construction,” Lacy said.
“The City would ask those businesses which are more service oriented as opposed to their retail sales neighbor, to be a good neighbor and allow parking on the side streets for the store which relies upon the ‘walk in’ customer,” Lacy said.
