Colonel Bryan Bequette speaks to Lourdes students

   Colonel Bryan W. Bequette (retired) spoke to Lourdes Central Catholic Middle School students Wednesday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
   Col. Bequette is married to the former Kelly Tynon of Peru, Neb. and has three children, sons Blake and Michael and daughter Taylor, all whom attend Lourdes Central Catholic School.
   Colonel Bequette recently retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. Just prior to his retirement he was deployed for a year to Baghdad, Iraq where he served as the Director of Training for the Civilian Police Assistance Training Team. In this position, he oversaw the Coalition and U.S. effort to advise the Iraqi Ministry of Interior on training police recruits and professionalizing the fledgling democratic police force.
   From July 2000 to May 2003, Col. Bequette was assigned to the Joint Staff Deputy Directorate for Combating Terrorism.  From May 2003 to July 2006 he was the Commander, 1st Aviation Battalion, 291st Regiment (TS), at Fort Hood, Texas. His Battalion’s mission was to prepare National Guard and Army Reserve aviation units for deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans. From July 2006 to July 2008 Col. Bequette assumed the duties as the U.S. Army Reserve Command Deputy Chief of Staff G7 (Training) where he was responsible for the management of the Army Reserve training of its 198,000-man force, training funds and training infrastructure.
   His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star medal second award, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 OLC, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with 4 OLC, the Army Achievement Medal with 3 OLC, the Senior Army Aviator Badge, and the Airborne and Air Assault badges.
