The new Northside Elementary may be completed next week, while construction at the high school is lagging behind, said Chuck Stoner, building project supervisor for Nebraska City Public Schools.  Stoner gave an update at the school board’s regular meeting Monday night.
“There are a lot of loose ends, but we’re making good progress,” Stoner said of the construction work overall.
Superintendent Jeff Edwards said the Fire Marshal is scheduled to inspect Northside this week.  Occupancy may be approved by Friday, Dec. 18.  Stoner said landscaping work has been completed and sod has been laid.
At the high school, Stoner said the progress hasn’t been nearly as encouraging.  He said eight walls were to have gone up by now, but only two have been completed.  “I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we need to be,” he said.
Hayward was to be completed several months ago, but Edwards said a few items remain on the punch list.  Final payments are still being withheld.
