For the first time in the school’s history, Lourdes Central Catholic has won the MUDECAS Speech Contest. The school earned a total of 42 points at their first meet of the year, six more than second place finisher Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer. Bruning Davenport placed third.
“The same teams usually place in the top three. It was fun to finally be up with the best,” coach Sally DuBois said.
Fourteen members of the team earned metals at the event. DuBois said the team’s first placing and the individual accolades were well-deserved.
“The amount of time these kids put into their first meet was incredible,” she said. “I had student’s practicing until 11:30 p.m. the night before the meet just to perfect the quality of their performance.
“We are looking forward to a great season. We have a difficult district this year, but I think the student’s can rise to meet the challenge.”
