Incumbents in two of the four seats on the Nebraska City Board of Education up for election in 2010 said Tuesday they do not plan to seek re-election.
Cyndi Fox and John James, who combine for 30 years of experience on the board, said they enjoyed their service on the board, but feel it’s time to do something different.
James, a former board president, served 16 years to 2008 and is currently filling an unexpired term.
James, a farmer and businessman, was first elected for the opening of the new middle school in 1992. He counted the building projects, including the recently opened Northside elementary, and the hiring of superintendents Keith Rohwer and Jeff Edwards among board accomplishments.
Fox, a former board president, also listed the new school and the hiring of school district management as highlights of her 12 years on the board.
Also up for election in 2010 are Stacie Higgins and Bernadette Shanholtz.
The last day for incumbents to file for re-election is Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Election filings as of Friday include Rick Freshmen, second district Otoe County board and David Partsch, Otoe County attorney
