Construction crews took advantage of the cool morning temperatures across Nebraska City Thursday to slice through cement, load bricks, form sidewalks and repair walls.

Rupert Construction used a saw to cut through asphalt and brick to expose spots of the Central Avenue substreet and TAB Construction used a skidloader with hammer to punch holes in the First Corso sidewalk.

Calco Enterprises worked on the Livingston Way project and ME Collins continued work on the 11th Corso alignment project.

Crews poured concrete for 14th Corso near McDonald’s and Pizza Hut on Wednesday and are expected to pour the east side of 11th Street on 11th Corso Friday.

Portion of Central Avenue were closed for the first time on Wednesday as crews removed the paving and brick beneath in areas where the road base needs repair.

Crews are also began working on new sidewalk ramps at 11th Street and First Corso. They will expected to continue north passed the Pioneer Theater to First Avenue.

Adding to the construction activity Thursday morning was driveway work on the east side of the Otoe County Courthouse by Steve Walters.

Public Properties Director Dan Giittinger said the Livingston Way project is also off and running. Crews had dug a drainage system intended to remove water from the base of the Sewing Basket building. They also worked on repairing brick mortar on the exposed wall.

Giittinger said it’s good to see the progress.
“Hopefully the weather stays fairly dry so we can keep rolling,” he said.
