Every April, the Nebraska City News Press helps Nebraska City celebrate Arbor Day by bestowing a Prestigious Tree Award on a local tree. The specimens are nominated by members of the public and voted on by members of the Arbor Day Committee.
While Nebraska City is a more than half a year from celebrating the 148th Annual Arbor Day (April 26-28, 2019), the time to start looking for the next Prestigious Tree is now.
“Normally, nominations are sought in the weeks prior to Arbor Day,” said Amy Allgood, Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce executive director. “But this is the time of year when all the trees are leafed out and beautiful, so why not ask for nominations now?”
Prestigious Trees are chosen based on their stature, placement, unique features, or special stories associated with them. Nominations can be sent at any time to the Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce office at 806 1st Avenue, Nebraska City, NE, 68410. While photographs are not required to be submitted along with the written nomination, they are suggested.
Nominations received now will be held until the 2019 Prestigious Tree is named.
