Seven new members were inducted into the National Honor Society for Lourdes Central Catholic during an induction ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, Jan. 12.
Quinten Vasa, president of Lourdes National Honor Society, gave a brief history of the organization noting that it began in 1919 when J.G. Masters, principal of the Omaha Central High School, proposed to representatives at the National Association of Secondary Principals an idea to develop a program that would emphasize the qualities of leadership and character. The criteria was expanded to include scholarship and citizenship.
“The National Honor Society has been the leading organization for recognizing and involving students in schools around the nation. We at Lourdes Central Catholic hope to do the same,” said Vasa.
The new inductees at Lourdes are as follows:
Thomas Ragland is a senior and son of Tom and Rachelle Ragland. He is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Thomas was a member of the back-to-back state champion Lourdes boys’ basketball teams and received Academic All State football honors.
Logan Bakula is a junior and daughter of Mark and Heather Bakula. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Logan is a cheerleader, received Outstanding Actress in One Act and is a District Speech Champion for her Humorous Prose piece.
Ashley Baragary is a junior and the daughter of Tim and Nancy Baragary. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Ashley has an impressive 31 ACT score, is part of the Henry Doorly Zoo’s youth volunteer program and is a member of 4-H.
Chloe DuBois is a junior and the daughter of Laurence and Sally DuBois. Chloe is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She is the president of the junior class, a member of the student council and toured Europe this past summer with the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music.
Colter Fulton is a junior and the son of Terry and Melisa Fulton. Colter attends Mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Julian. He has a perfect 4.0 GPA , is a member of T4:12 and was a member of the backstage crew for one acts and musicals. he participates in football, basketball and track..
Piper Monson is a junior and the daughter of B.J. and Cindy Monson. She is a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Julian. Piper is a two-year member of the prestigious Nebraska All State Chorus as a Soprano 1 and she received many acting awards, including the Outstanding Volunteer at the Lofte Community Theater.
Karinne Olson is a junior and the daughter of Erik and Kilee Olson. She is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City. She recently played Jane Bennett in “A Seussified Pride and Prejudice.” Karinne is the vice president of the junior class and a member of the student council.
In addition to Vasa, as president, other National Honor Society officers are Jack Funke, vice president; Olivia Welch, secretary; James Mason, treasurer; Halli Whitten, chaplain; and Nicole Green, guard.
