Syracuse, Neb. -

Months of preparation, a slew of volunteers, and a lot of hard work came together Sunday for the start of the Otoe County Fair.

Sunday activities included the meat and dairy goat shows, sheep show, and awarding of the Pioneer Farm awards, among others.

After Friday-Saturday, Aug. 7-8, brought temperatures in the 90s, the latter day nearing 100 degrees, many fair-goers were expressing gratitude for cooler temperatures in the 80s forecast for the fair.

A brief midafternoon thunderstorm Sunday cooled temperatures to the upper 60s for the early evening.

For the second year, the Goat Show was divided into two shows — one for meat goats and one for dairy, as goat numbers continue to be strong at the fair. The Sheep Show was one of the shortest in years, running just over three hours.
