The 2009 Arbor Day parade featured 40 entries led by the American Legion color guard, Mayor Jack Hobbie, State Sen. Dave Pankonin and Arbor Day honorees Richard and Nancy Hoch.

The line-up also included the Sacred Buffalo Dance Troop and Drummers, Paws for a Cause walkers, Old School Drill Team and Nebraska City marching bands.

Lindsey Moyer, the runner-up of the Arbor Day poster contest, rode on the National Arbor Day Foundation float. The float was awarded for best use of the theme, “Growing Green for our Planet.”
Other winning floats were Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, best overall; Wal-Mart, best commercial; and Blue Star Mothers, most original.

Rose Ralstin of the Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce said despite a light rain almost every entry turned out for the parade.
