Members of the Otoe County Visitors Committee suggested Oct 21 that paid advertising to Nebraska City newspaper and radio companies be dropped from a proposed Stones and Bones Expo planned Feb. 27.

Brian Volkmer of the Nebraska City Museum Association asked the committee to use $2,573 in county lodging taxes to promote a one-day event featuring Native American artifacts and prehistoric bison skulls, sloth bones and mammoth teeth.

Volkmer said local turnout is important as the local attractions hope to recover expenses of about $5,000.

He was told that the visitors committee's job is to sell hotel rooms and the committee makes a contribution to Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce for local promotion of events.
