The Nebraska City Jaycees’ annual fireworks show at Steinhart Park is scheduled for Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, with a rain date on Sunday, July 5.
The show will feature 6,717 shells and 25 ground displays.
American Legion baseball games with Nebraska City playing Auburn are scheduled at 1 and 3 p.m. The Southeast Community Band will play from 7 to 8 p.m. at the ice cream social set to start at 7:30 p.m.
A kiss the pig and cute baby contest are scheduled along with the American Legion flag ceremony. The fireworks show will start at dusk.
Jaycee Duane Koehlmoos said a rain date is scheduled, but the Jaycees have used the rain date only once in the past 23 years.
“We begin building the fireworks firing range and displays at 8:30 in the morning and we need eight or nine hours to get everything ready. Believe me, we would rather not use a rain date,” he said.
He said volunteers are welcome to help set up or raise funds at the Jaycees road block fundraiser on Saturday, June 20.
