A Nebraska City man was sentenced to 12 to 18 months in prison Monday and placed on the sexual offender registry for his interactions with a 16-year-old runaway girl from Ohio.
David Albert Satrapa, 30, was arrested on Sept. 5 for possession of pornography after Nebraska City police found the runaway near his apartment.
In court Satrapa apologized for his actions and said he knew he should be punished to some extent for what he did.
“It does become a serious offense because of the interaction with the minor,” District Judge Randall Rehmeier said.
The girl’s mother called Cleveland police on Thursday, Sept. 3, to report her daughter had run away and might be on her way to Nebraska City.
Police Captain Lonnie Neeman said the mother had discovered, by reviewing text messages and Internet activity, that her daughter had been communicating with someone named “Dave” in Nebraska City.
She had not seen her daughter since Sept. 2 and Cleveland listed the girl as a missing juvenile.
Neeman called David Albert Satrapa Jr., 30, regarding the girl and said that Satrapa told him the girl was not in Nebraska City.
About an hour later, Neeman said, a third party called police to say the girl had been seen in the parking lot behind Satrapa’s apartment.
A photo that was exchanged between the girl and Satrapa via cell phone was reviewed by the court and taken into consideration for the sentencing.
