Kansas City-(U.P.)-A 70-year-old Council Bluffs, Iowa woman today was busy distributing more than $1,000 worth of gifts for needy flood victims.
Miss Elizabeth McCammon arrived here yesterday to start personal delivery of the various articles to needy families recommended by the Salvation Army.
"I brought the type of things," she said, "that I would buy for a member of my own family. I want to deliver the gifts myself. That's why I came here."
She bought dresses, skirts, blouses, shoes and men's suits. She also said she shipped a truckload of sheets, pillowcases, dishes, towels and cakes of soap.
She said her biggest hope was to find a couple about to be married.
"i have a white suit for the bridegroom and I want to buy a beautiful white gown for the bride," Miss McCammon said.
"If I can bring a few smiles to some of the families of the July flood, I will be copletely satisfied," she said.
Miss McCammon said she had worked for the Citizens Power & Light Co., and later for the Council Bluffs Gas company, at Council Bluffs. She said she loved to help people in distress and often spent her salary to aid needy persons.
