Nebraska City police are participating in the national You Drink you Drive you Lose enforcement grant Aug. 20 to Sept. 6.

The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety grant provides overtime pay to allow a “saturation patrol of Nebraska City.” This weekend, the grant provided for four extra police officers to work about 25 hours.

Officers’ emphasis is on locating, stopping and arresting impaired drivers.
Police made one driving under the influence arrest shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The mandatory minimum sentence for a conviction of driving under the influence is seven days in jail, six-months license revocation and a $400 fine. If probation, there is a $400 fine and 60-day license revocation.
