Nebraska City police report several complaints this summer of people being bit by stray dogs and cats.
Police advise people not to pick up or try to catch animals they do not know.
If one of these animals bites someone the animal, if caught, usually has to be quarantined to determine if it has rabies or some other disease.
If the animal is not located the person who was bitten may have to go through treatment for rabies.
It is best to leave stray and wild animals alone and not attempt to handle such animals, police report.
