Nemaha Natural Resources District officials have announced that most of the Steamboat Trace trail from Nebraska City to Brownville has been reopened.
Following heavy rains this summer that damaged bridges and deposited sediment and debris on the trail surface, NRD crews have managed to clean up the trail’s rocked surface well enough to allow passage either by bicycle or on foot.
However, visitors are cautioned that some spots remain rough and will require additional work to return them to their original status.
A two-mile section of the trail from Brownville south toward Cooper Nuclear Station has not been reopened yet due to substantial damage to a bridge.
In addition a short detour remains in place at Brownville while construction takes place on the Missouri River bridge above the trail. For more information on the trail’s status, contact the Nemaha NRD at (402) 335-3325.
