Students from Nebraska City will join thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across America this Wednesday, Oct. 8, to share their Christian faith.

“Fields of Faith” will be held at 7 p.m. on the Nebraska City High School football field. This rapidly-growing, interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 400 locations throughout the country on the same day.

This will be Nebraska City’s third year participating in the event. All middle and high school aged students, as well parents and the general public are invited to attend.

“The purpose of the event is to get people back into their Bible and give them a renewed passion” said Joe Mullarkey, associate pastor at Calvary Community Church and an advisor for the event. “People neglect their Bible reading and it’s good to have a reminder.”

The night will include live worship music, the Bible lesson which inspired the event and testimony from youth.

“It’s really exciting to see the students in the community who care about Bible reading,” Mullarkey said.

Rachel Lynn, a member of the local FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Student Leadership Team, is one of the event organizers. She said Fields of Faith has grown over the last several years. In 2004, three states with a total of 23 fields and 6,000 people participated. Last year, 36 states, 364 fields and more than 75,000 people took part.

Last year’s series of events saw 1,852 students make first-time commitments to Christ, 4,089 recommit their life to Christ and 9,149 commit to reading the Bible daily.

“This event has great potential to reach many people who may not be exposed to church a lot,” Mullarkey said.

FCA student leaders include Lynn, Ashley Stelling, Anna Holmberg, Ben Rice, Victoria McCord, Dylan Heng and Briana Radke. Adult leaders include Mullarkey, Doug Langemeier, Aaron Madsen, Michelle Burton and Laura Poirier.

National FCA president and former NFL coach Les Steckel said fields are a perfect location for the event. “Many nights are spent on those fields cheering on local teams, but on this particular night the praise belongs to God.”
