Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca grads Tim Reed and Chris Parde are members of the Doane College football team. Doane recorded a 4-6 record last year under coach Matt Franzen. A native of Gothenburg, Franzen graduated from Doane College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. He also holds a Masters Degree from Hastings College in Teaching/Physical Education. He earned First Team NAIA All-America honors in 1993 as an offensive lineman. Franzen had been an assistant coach at Hastings College since 1996. In 2005, he was named assistant head coach for the Broncos.

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca grad Catie McLey is a member of the Doane College women’s golf team. The Doane program is led by Jeannine Foster, who took over the Doane College head women's golf coach position in November 2007. She is a six-time champion in the Women's Club Championship held at College Heights Country Club in Crete and competes in several Nebraska Women's Amateur Golf Association Tournaments.

Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca grad Will Juilfs is a member of the Doane College men’s golf team. The team is led by Myron Parsley, who took over the Doane College head men's golf coach position in November 2007. Parsley is a counselor at Doane and previously served as the Tiger's golf coach from 1997-1999. In 1998, the Doane women qualified for the NAIA National Championship meet held in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Parsley was a collegiate athlete and participated in both the NAIA and NCAA Division III Championships his senior year. He is a scratch player who completes regularly in the Nebraska State Amateur and several other amateur events.

Nebraska City grad Tyler Weston is a member of the Hastings College football team. Hastings posted a 6-4 record last season under seventh-year coach Paul Mierkiewicz. He has a 38-24 record at Hastings. After coaching stints at Moorhead (Minn.) State and Loras College, Mierkiewicz began his tenure at Hastings College as the offensive coordinator in 1998. In 1999 the Bronco offense broke 12 school records while earning its second consecutive undefeated regular season.

Nebraska City grad Boo Frields is a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team. Joining Frields on the team are a pair of Eastern Midlands Conference grads in Wyatt Peterson of Gretna and Ryan Linder of Plattsmouth. The Wesleyan team recorded a 21-20 overall record in the spring of 2008, including a 13-11 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Bill Fagler, the third-year coach of the baseball program, has a 55-62 overall record with the Prairie Wolves.

Lourdes grad Jimmy Lance is a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan men’s basketball team. Lance is joined by Southeast Nebraska high school grads in Lee Hulman of Falls City, and Brandon Arp and Jacob Spurgeon, both of Gretna. Wesleyan recorded a 14-13 overall record, including a 7-11 mark in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. Cam Schuknecht will enter his second year as head coach and fourth year overall with the program.

S-D-A grads Andy Stilmock and Brian Copley are teammates on the Nebraska Wesleyan men’s track and field and cross country teams. Six-time National Coach of the Year Dr. Ted Bulling, Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, is recognized as one of the best college coaches in the country, and his reputation grows each year. Under his guidance, the Prairie Wolves have won nine NCAA team trophies, awarded for top-four finishes, since 2001.

Nebraska City grad Heidi Dammast is a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan women’s golf team. The program is led by fifth-year coach Stacy Graham. In 2005-06, the NWU women qualified for the NAIA Region III Championships after earning a fifth place finish at the GPAC Championships.

Nebraska City grad Cara Ward is a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team. She is joined on the team by Southeast Nebraska high school grads Brittny Barber of Fairbury and Linsey Thomsen of Beatrice. Team team recorded a 17-12 overall mark last year and went 8-8 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. Gina Chambers is in her fourth season as Nebraska Wesleyan’s head volleyball coach. She served as interim head coach in 2004 and accepted the job on a full-time basis following the 2004 season. Chambers has guided the team to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, and her career record against Division III opponents stands at 26-13.
