Demolition is in progress at the former Apple Inn, located at the corner of Fourth Corso and 11th Street in Nebraska City, where a new Walgreens store will be constructed.

7-M Corporation sold the 59-year-old hotel to Village Development Nebraska City, which has leased the ground to Walgreens. Preliminary plans call for a 73,000 square foot store with a drive-through lane and access from both Fourth Corso and 11th Street.

Brandt Construction tore down the 1986 addition building on Monday and is taking down the cottages today. The excavator operator is carefully separating some of the stone that makes up the walls, but the remaining debris is expected to end up in a landfill.

Crews are working now to clear the property and seed the ground in preparation for construction next spring.
