Jeannette R. “Jean” Lien

Jeannette R. “Jean” Lien, 76, of Nebraska City, died at her home July 18, 2008. She was born Nov. 28, 1931 in Nebraska City to Benjamin O. and Marie Fae (Bates) Kernes. She married Harold W. Lien on July 27, 1957 in Tillamook, Ore. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1987.

She is survived by sisters-in-law Mary Beth Kernes of Julian and Ruth Lien of Eugene, Ore.; aunts Vera Whaley and Sally Wilkerson, both of Omaha; nieces Juliet Kernes and Elizabeth Kernes Krause and husband Ralph, all of Julian; nephew Thomas Kernes and wife Jamie of Hickman; great niece Elena Kernes; seven great-nephews, Ian Kernes, Nick, Kevin, Todd, Adam, Ben and Alex Krause; and other family and friends.

Private family funeral services will be held later in the week at Gude Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Bluff Cemetery near Murray.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City or to the Jeannette Kernes Lien Scholarship Fund at Nebraska City High School.
