Lucas Barrett of the Hamburg boys’ track team picked up two open event state qualifying marks and played an integral role in getting a relay team to state during district action last week at Corning.

Barrett placed second in both the 400 and 800 meter races with times of 53.52 and 2:09.24.

Doug Raymond, Klinton Hansen and Kaleb Kahue teamed with Barrett in taking second place in the 1600 meter medley relay. The team ran a season best time of 3:54.50.

Kahue and Raymond ran the 200 meter segments of the race, while Hansen and Barrett ran the 400 and the 800 meter segments.

Elsewhere for the Hamburg team, the Wildcats narrowly missed two other district medals.

Aaron Mincer finished just out of the medals at seventh in the 1600 meter run and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Hansen, Joel DeLong, Colin Nahkunst, and Kahue ran seventh.

In terms of the state performances, Coach Todd Quick said the team met expectations.

“There were three events that we thought we had a shot in,” Coach Quick said of the 400, 800 and distance medley. “It was nice to get all three of those events.”
