Police candidates complete tests
|
By Patricia Rengifo Hamburg Reporter
Three candidates for the position of Hamburg Police Officer completed written and agility testing Saturday morning.
Mayor Cathy Crain said she is not at liberty to say how many of the three passed this portion of the testing and will be invited to continue with the process.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is completing background checks on the remaining candidates.
In addition to undergoing psychological testing, the candidates will complete a ride-a-long with either the Tabor or Sidney Police officers.
“Each of the candidates would be making a career change and we wanted to give them a good idea of what the role and duties of a police officer are before they make that decision,” Crain said.
If the candidates decline the position or are eliminated due to poor testing, the city has a “Plan B” in place.
“We will advertise in a wider area,” Crain said. “We only advertised in six papers because we wanted someone from here.”
She said if a new candidate comes from outside the area, they will be required to have already graduated from the police academy and will be required to move to Hamburg.
