The Fremont County Board of Supervisors is asking the roads department to stretch its budget as much as possible.

County Engineer Dan Davis came before the board Tuesday seeking a $200,000 budget amendment.

Davis said the unexpected expenditures come from mainly the high cost of gasoline and diesel as well as tires and natural gas.

“The problem is we can’t hardly amend the budget,” Chairman John Whipple said.

He explained that, by the time the proposed amendment is published and public hearings are held, it will be in June and at the end of the fiscal year.

“Is there any way you can stretch it?” he asked.

Davis said he could amend the Department of Transportation budget to be able to use local construction money to make it through the end of the year. “We’ll cross our fingers and hope that nothing else falls apart,” he said.
