Rosalee M. Vaughan, 87, of Nebraska City, died April 30, 2008 at Duff’s Friendship Villa in Nebraska City. She was born Jan. 26, 1921 at McPherson, Kan., to Raymond and Monica (Culligan) Hallenbeck. Her mother died in 1929 and her father in 1930. After their deaths, she and her brother were taken to St. Joseph Children Orphanage in Abilene, Kan., then to Brush, Colo., then to Edgemont, S.D., to live with grandparents on a farm. After her grandfather’s death two years later, she went to live with an uncle and aunt in Hot Springs, S.D., then, in 1934, a year after graduating 8th grade, she moved to Auburn to live with her aunt and uncle, the Bert Hallenbeck family. She worked for Ocomo Foods, American Meter and was a secretary and bookkeeper at her husband’s garage. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Rodger Good officiating. Family will greet friends at the mortuary Thursday, 7- 8 p.m. Burial will follow at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
