Agnes C. Penney

Agnes Christina Penney, 76, of Percival died April 29 at Shenandoah memorial Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was born July 29, 1932 in Twin Brooks, S.D., to Chris Bernard and Metta Marguta (Ahlrichs) Varenhorst. She married Keith G. Penney March 27, 1959 in Kansas City, Mo.

She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1950.

She was a dedicated farmwife. She worked at Brown’s Hospital and at Montgomery Wards in the catalog department. She was an active member of Percival Community Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, and Friendly Neighbors Club of Percival. She was Benton Township Clerk.

She is survived by sons Philip Penney and special friend Tina Docken of Percival, Steven Penney and wife Bonnie of Council Bluffs, and Mark Penney and wife Paula of Gretna; five grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan, Tyler, Marek and Riley Penney; siblings Lucille Bickford and husband Ai of Waverly, Herman Varenhorst and wife Margaret of Hamburg, Harvey Varenhorst of Nebraska City and Donald Varenhorst and wife Gale of Sun City, Ariz.; aunts Anna Alrichs of Nebraska City and minnie Byram of Auburn, Calif.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded by her husband Jan. 18, 2000.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday. Burial is at Grandview Cemetery, rural Sidney.

Memorials are suggested to Percival Volunteer Fire Department or the Lewis Central Music Department.
