Donald “Don” Everett Peterson, 74, of Nebraska City, died Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. He was born on June 13, 1933, in Nebraska City, son of Albert and Bertha (Kauth) Peterson. He married Carol Myers on Jan. 15, 1958, in Nebraska City.
He entered the Army on July 29, 1953, and served in Germany until he received an honorable sischarge on May 20, 1955.
Don was a hard worker and farmed for over 40 years, until he retired in 1998. He enjoyed trucking in the off seasons. He enjoyed fishing trips, playing golf and playing cards and having drinks with his friends at Ron’s Bar.
He was a member of Western Star #2 Masonic Lodge, the Arbor Shrine Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #968, Elks Lodge #1049 and American Legion.
He was preceded by his parents and brother Fred.
Survivors include son Rex Peterson and special friend Kim Algood of Nebraska City; daughter Dawn "Renee" Peterson of Watson, Mo.; grandsons Josh Peterson and special friend Samantha Buetzer of Nebraska City and Rex Peterson of Lincoln; great granddaughter Taylor Peterson of Nebraska City; sister Beverly Dunn of Nashville, Tenn.; other relatives and many friends.
Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday, May 1, at 1 p.m. with the family greeting family and friends from 7-8 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral service will be Friday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Duling officiating. Burial will follow at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with full military rites by the American Legion Post #8 and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Detail.
Honorary bearers are all of Don’s friends and the active casket bearers are Melvin Giittinger, Jack Olson, Arlie "Cork" Reimers, Marty Stovall, Justin Walters and Steve Vogel.
Peterson Mortuary is in charge or arrangements.
