Stephen Andrew Walters, 67, of Nebraska City died April 18, 2008 at Nebraska Heart Institute - Lincoln . He was born Jan. 9, 1941 in Percival, Iowa, to Lawson Thomas and Florence Ellen (Sheard) Walters. He married Donna J. Rhoades July 3, 1961 at Sidney, Iowa.

He is survived by wife Donna of Nebraska City; sons Steven Walters and wife Brenda of Nebraska City, Thomas Walters of Nebraska City, and Scott Walters and wife Brandi of Lincoln; daughter Debra Heng and husband David of Nebraska City; grandchildren Adam, Derek, Amber and Cece Walters, Tyler and Alex Heng, Morgan, and Logan and Keegan Walters; great-grandson Steven Henry “Hank” Walters; brothers Bill Walters and wife Kathryn, and Donnie Walters and wife Sheila, all of Nebraska City; sisters Ora Mae Walters, Jane Maybee, Patty Ried and husband Wayne, all of Nebraska City, Barbara Johnson and husband Jerry of Julian, and Bettina Swartz of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister-in-law Connie Walters of Nebraska City; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded by his parents; brothers Charles, Robert and Leland; and sister Susie Reed. His brother, Gerald, died the following day.

He lived in Nebraska City his entire life. He was the owner/operator of Steve Walters & Son Construction for 35 years.

He was a member of F.O.E. Aerie No. 968 and past member of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1049, both of Nebraska City.

He loved spending time and playing cards with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Father Michael McCabe officiating. Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday at Marshall Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers are Lonnie Rakes, Robert Paige, Jerry Briley, Ken Reese, Joy Dodd, Jerry Johnson, Wayne Ried, Dave Heng, Sr., and Mike Reed.

Active pallbearers are Tom Blevins, Jim Reed, Danny Moyer, Jack Stidd, Ron Roumpf and Jody Maybee.

A memorial fund has been established.
