Gerald “Dick” Martin Walters, 74, of Nebraska City, died at home on April 19, 2008. He was born March 7, 1934 in Thurman, Iowa, to Lawson and Florence (Sheard) Walters. He married Connie Andrew on Aug. 9, 1958 in Auburn.
He is survived by wife Connie Walters of Nebraska City; sons Randy Walters and wife Sue of Clarinda, Iowa, and Allan Walters of Beatrice; grandchildren Jacob Walters, Amanda Walters and Ali Walters; sisters Ora Mae Walters of Nebraska City, Jane Maybee of Nebraska City, Patty Ried and husband Wayne of Nebraska City, Barb Johnson and husband Jerry of Julian, and Bettina Swartz of St. Joseph, Mo.; brothers Bill Walters and wife Katherine of Nebraska City and Donnie Walters and wife Sheila of Nebraska City; sister-in-law Donna Walters of Nebraska City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, sister Susie Reed, and brothers Charles, Bobby, Leland and Steve. He lived in Nebraska City his entire life. He worked at Morton House Kitchens for over 30 years, but in more recent years he did landscaping, lawn care and loved helping other people.
Gerald loved following Nebraska athletics, finding great deals and collecting many treasurers. In his younger years, he restored Model T cars.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with Rev. Jerry Albright of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) officiating. Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Marshall Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers are Harold Huss, Harry Gibbs, Dale Norstadt, Dave Hickey, Mike Redelfs, John Williamson, Donnie Walters and Scott Walters.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
